The ending of the film highlights all the roadblocks preventing the emergency landing from happening sooner. A bomber on board an airplane, an airport almost closed by snow, and various personal problems of the people involved. However, after 35 years, I still find this film a lot of fun to watch (even though it really should be experienced in a theater). It was written and directed by George Seaton.
