Race officials announced this week that the iconic 2020 Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Canoe Race, name...As news continues to develop around the Corona Virus (COVID-19), Kai Opua Canoe Clubs Executive Board have decided to proceed with the original date of the 2020 Queen Liliuokalani Long Distance Canoe Race week set for Thursday, September 3 through Monday, September 7 in Kailua-Kona Hawaii. KAILUA-KONA — The motto is the show must go on — at least for now — when it comes to the Queen Liliuokalani Outrigger Canoe race. The Queen Lili‘uokalani Canoe Race, named in honor of Hawai‘i’s last remaining monarch, will host paddlers from across the globe for five days of canoe racing starting Thursday, Aug. 29, 2019. Coverage of the north bound race live streams all the way back to Kailua Bay for the finish. In addition to the traditional single hull races, there are also one-person, two-person and double hull races at regular and long distances. Queen Lili’uokalani Long Distance Canoe Race, hosted by Kai ‘Opua Canoe Club, has been held in every Labor Day weekend in September since its first race in 1971. Kai 'Opua Canoe Club is also host to the World's Largest Long Distance Outrigger Canoe Races - "The Queen Lili'uokalani", now in it's 49th year.
